Natural wood flooring since 1979.....

All of our flooring comes planed and unfinished, ready for you to apply a wood floor colour of your own once the flooring has been laid. This gives you huge optionality over the lifetime of living with your floor- if in 10 years time you want a change of wood floor colour, simply sand our flooring back and re-oil with a tint of your choosing. Being a completely solid wood flooring, you’re not going to sand into any glue layer beneath, and you’re not going to run out of depth as you may do with an engineered board.

Our wood flooring has been 100% natural and chemical free from the word go, and sometimes it’s nice to keep that look and feel running through your home. We’re finding that ‘keeping it natural’ is by far one of the most popular choices when it comes to choosing the colour of your wood flooring. You maintain all of the character and grain of the flooring without loosing that freshly planed colouring of the wood.

The options for this are numerous, depending on your requirements. We’ve found a lot of customers use Osmo Polyx Oil in Raw on their ash flooring and chestnut flooring to keep their floors looking light.

Light Oak colouring is a harmonious and natural base layer for any home. It offers the grandeur and warmth of an oak flooring, but keeps your project fresh and natural looking. Using a wood floor colour such as Omso Raw or Fiddes hardware oil in Light Oak tint or Ultra Raw will help achieve this look, keeping your home at one with nature.

However, some customers find that these products can have too many chemicals in them to use in their home. For a natural range of wood floor finishes, we’d really recommend taking a look at Auro Wood floor finishes. Their products are completely natural and have a gorges grapefruit smelling fragrance to them when being used.

Grey wood floor colours.............

Opt for a grey wood floor colour for a sophisticated and clean aesthetic in your home. Its sleek and neutral appearance makes it suitable for a wide range of design styles, from minimalist and industrial to transitional and Scandinavian.  Grey wood floors also offer fantastic versatility. IA wood floor colour of this choice can seamlessly complement various colour palettes and decor styles, allowing for greater flexibility in design choices. Whether paired with bold accent colours for a striking contrast or combined with softer hues for a more subdued look, grey flooring can adapt to different design schemes with ease.

Lighter shades of grey can help brighten a room by reflecting natural light, making spaces feel more open and spacious. This is particularly beneficial in smaller rooms or areas with limited natural light, where a brighter solid wood flooring option can help create a more inviting atmosphere.

Like other wood flooring options, grey wood flooring is relatively easy to maintain and keep clean. Regular sweeping and occasional mopping are typically all that’s needed to preserve its beauty and longevity, making it a practical choice for busy households and commercial settings alike. For all our wood flooring though, we recommend taking a look at this post which explains the cleaning of solid wood floors further.

Dark wood flooring adds depth to any room. A wood flooring colour that is often associated with older properties and period homes, it’s a colour choice that brings rich tones and warmth with it. This wood flooring colour choice can be very easily achieved, and there are various techniques to achieving it.

Using waxs and wax crayons is an effective method to aging a wooden floor, but ideally you need the undulation of boards like our Heritage Oak if you want to create this older aged look.

Reclaimed wood flooring is often darker in colour from years and years of wear and footfall. Using products such as Morrell’s two part wax filler on your Oak flooring will create character and age instantly.  However, it’s not just oak flooring that lends itself well to being stained. An ash or chestnut flooring can easily be tinted using a range of tints from the companies mentioned above.

Let's discuss whitewashing wood flooring......

Whitewashing wood floors involves applying a thin layer of white paint or white stain to the surface of your British wood flooring allowing some of the natural grain and texture to show through. This technique creates a light, airy, and rustic appearance that is often associated with beach cottages, farmhouse-style homes, and Scandinavian interiors.

You need to decide whether you’re going to use a white paint or a white stain- most often a stain is used for a more natural wood floor colour.

We often find that our Ash flooring or our Chestnut flooring is the most popular hardwood floor choice for whitewashing as it already has the look of a light wood flooring. Our Ash flooring does have olive tones running through some of the boards which offers a striking

With all of these fabulous options for wood floor colours across your home, we find that time and time again our customers chose one colour above all else. A warm honey colour on our Classic Oak flooring provides a warmth and depth to a room unequal to any other wood floor colour.

Customers (rightly so) don’t really want their beautiful oak flooring turning yellow with time.  We completely understand this and so only recommend the best floor finishes for your room. There are certain brands that DO turn your flooring yellow with time, and we can help you avoid these when choosing the finish of your solid wood floor. All of our floors are easily sanded back to their raw original base, so if you wish to live with a certain wood floor colour for 5 years, and then change it up, you can. We’re here to offer help and advice, and all of our wood flooring pages have motifs showing different wood floor colours for your home.
