Flooring to Last a Lifetime......
The life cycle of materials is important and is something that our society is becoming increasingly aware of. What happens to our products once they’ve been ‘used’. With our solid wood flooring, the entire life cycle is considered. Equally however, the end of life for our solid wood flooring should be in hundreds of ears time, and so it isn’t something we’ll be seeing first hand. Luckily though, all of our solid wood flooring is 100% natural solid British wood. That’s it, no chemicals, no plastics, no hidden glues, just wood. This means, that when the end of life does come for our wood flooring, it won’t have any negative impact on the planet.
How long exactly does our solid wood flooring last?
We’d expect our wood flooring in the right conditions to live for 300-500 years. That’s a very long time and not every floor of ours will live into this range. However. If we think of our older period properties of today, many of them hold floors that were laid over 200 years ago, back when conditions weren’t as prime as they are today. Damp issues, insect attacks and humidity levels are all a lot more controlled in today’s modern houses, and so solid wood flooring laid today finds itself in a very favourable atmosphere to last for years to come.
A Sustainable Choice ......
Our solid wood flooring is the perfect compliment to a sustainable home looking for a flooring choice that is good for the planet. Sustainable homes don’t necessarily have to be new build passive houses, they can be categorised as any home in which the building materials are considered and sustainable choices are made in the choosing. Choosing our solid wood as a sustainable flooring helps to step away from the disposable society that we’ve become trapped within and points us in a direction of circular life cycles.
Ethical and British .....
The entire life cycle of our solid wood flooring is important and although the above discusses the end of life stage for our wood flooring, it is important to recognise that the manufacture of our flooring ranges is also a sustainable, local green energy process. Using local British grown trees, alongside solar energy and biomass heat, our process imports nothing and produces no nasty excess waste. There are no glues or chemicals used in the process of manufacturing our flooring and for as far as we can see, there isn’t a more sustainable choice of flooring available for our British homes.
