Coppice & Crown’s Heritage Oak Flooring was a timeless choice for this family home at the heart of a country village.
In the rolling hills of Devon lies a gorgeously quaint village, home to Jess, James and their two young sons. Renovating this period property from bottom to top, the couple were looking for a sustainable wood flooring which would give back to the home, and provide a practical and warm floor for their kitchen. Jess can be found on Instagram under Figtree Farm where she documents their renovations photograph by photograph.
The house is nestled in the historical centre of the village, close to the local church and with surrounding views over the sweeping Devon countryside. The couple have chosen to lovingly restore the house, creating a beautiful family home for their two young boys to grow up in.
Entering the kitchen, you’d be mistaken into thinking the solid oak flooring is an original feature of the home. Our Heritage Oak fits timelessly, giving the essence of a perfect farmhouse kitchen with a historic floor. Complemented by a rustic farmhouse table, fresh bunches of basil, and a vintage stool, it gives a relaxing aura to the rest of the home.
The gentle undulations of the flooring provide an intimacy and a sense of history to the room which you wouldn’t experience with any other oak flooring. The rich colours of the oak have been enhanced using Osmo Oil after a light sanding.
Light floods into the kitchen through the gorgeous windows, bouncing from the fresh reflections of the large Belfast sink and worktop, and onto the soft undulations of the Heritage Oak floor. Honey tones give a warm depth to the room in the winter, but reflect the light for golden rays in the summer, a year round natural floor.
With young children pit pattering around the house, and a local playground on their doorstep, it was important to have a durable floor, as well as a beautiful one. Choosing our Heritage Oak allowed for maximum hardiness in a farmhouse style home, whilst not compromising on any of the interior finishes that were so important to he family.
The couple plan to renovate their sitting room using the same Heritage Oak across the floor, but with a young family, and both working, their renovations are very much fitted into their spare time. They carry out most of the work themselves, with both Jess and James having learnt many a trade along the way, plastering, tiling and floor laying where possible.
The couple share an interest in home renovations and interiors and wanted a natural and sustainable wood flooring choice to finish off their home designs. After visiting our sawmill and workshop here in Devon, Jess decided that our Heritage Oak was the perfect fit for their family home. Find your perfect sustainable wood flooring for your home here.
