Our Heritage Oak Flooring was used in Paul & Victoria’s Somerset farmhouse as part of the oak flooring for the upstairs. Recently, the couple decided to continue the mixed width flooring across the entire landing, and have used it as a stair material too. They have invited us back to take a look at their most recent project using our wide plank flooring.

As you enter the home, you are greeted by stone flooring in the hallway providing a utilitarian floor to take off boots and hang up your coat. The stairway leads off from the hallway with our Heritage Oak leading the way up the stairs and across both landings at the top. Being specialists in wide plank flooring, we were able to match the width dimensions needed for the flooring treads. Being a listed property, it was important to create a sympathetic flooring design for the home.

Formally, Paul & Victoria had laid our Heritage Oak flooring across only the left hand turn of the landing, but have since decided to floor the entire upstairs landing in Heritage Oak. Previously a carpet floor, the style was not in keeping with the country farmhouse and it prevented this top corridor landing from ever being a peaceful yet timeless space. Using locally sourced Devon Oak in their home felt in keeping with  the property’s past as well as giving it something for its future story. It was an important factor to the couple that all our flooring is certified as Grown in Britain.

Now, with the rolling undulations of the oak flooring laid across the entire upstairs, there is a continuation throughout the home. The Heritage Oak flooring leads you from room to room, and all the way, compliments the cob walls of the house. The timeless flooring choice echoes the home’s past and breathes life back into its walls giving history back to this loving home.

Paul decided to lay the flooring himself, and also do the carpentry surrounding the stairwell. Coppice & Crown was able to offer advice along the way via phone, as well as having our handy resource centre for back up questions.  They used Osmo Polyx Oil in Clear to finish the oak floorboards having previously sanded them.

Our customers are the roots of our business. Repeat custom is one of the most important aspects to us here at our sawmill and workshop in Devon and provides feedback on all of our Devon oak flooring we produce. We send out only the highest quality wood flooring, with each piece passing through our hands at least eight times before reaching your home. Our uncompromising consistency leads to stories like Paul & Victoria’s, time and time again.
